These well known words from Gershwin's famous opera, "Porgy and Bess" reflect my feelings and those of my students during the summer months. During the months of June, July and the first half of August, we put Mozart and Verdi on the shelf and turn to lighter pursuits such as family vacations, working on that tan or simply getting some much needed R&R. Even though lessons are temporarily suspended during the summer, many students still choose to participate in our summer musical. This gives them the opportunity to depart from serious study and use their talents strictly for the fun of it. A show that is family-friendly and light-hearted is always the musical of choice. |

As the summer months draw to a close, students return, lessons resume and everyone looks forward to the last taste of summer, the student social. Everyone gets a chance to reconnect and share the highlights of their summer. The theme is different every year, but each social offers good food, good friends and good times.
